Power outages stir up public outrage in Ghana

Power outage in Ghana

Following an announcement by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) warning its customers about pending power outages during peak demand hours, many have expressed frustration and outrage.

The ECG in a release on February 11 indicated that between the hours of 7 pm and 11 pm GMT, there will be power outages in major communities across the nation.

They indicated that some 630 distribution transformers in communities across its operational zones are above capacity due to increased power consumption and this might result in blown fuses and conductors which will result in the outages.

While they pledged to put in work to deal with the issue quickly, many Ghanaians have expressed disappointment about the situation.

Their concerns follow similar power outages labeled as ‘Dumsor’ happening in parts of the country prior to the ECG’s announcement with suggestions that the country is facing a power crisis.
