Colombia inventor turns heads with praying mantis ‘walking bicycle’: Video
An inventor in Colombia has attracted attention after building an unusual “walking bicycle” shaped like a praying mantis that moves through mechanical steps rather than traditional wheels.
Footage filmed in the municipality of Chinchiná shows Enrique Vélez presenting several of his creations, including two experimental bicycles, one inspired by the form of a mantis and another fitted with half-wheel tyres. Vélez said the idea was to create a machine that does not roll but instead walks, drawing inspiration from the insect’s movement. Although many people assume he is an engineer, he explained that all his inventions are self-taught and developed through personal experimentation.
