Former Chilean President Bachelet backed for UN Secretary-General: Video

Outgoing Chilean President Gabriel Boric has publicly endorsed former president Michelle Bachelet as a candidate for United Nations secretary-general, presenting the bid as a joint initiative with Brazil and Mexico.

Speaking at La Moneda Palace, Boric said the nomination reflects a shared regional effort to strengthen multilateralism and amplify Latin America’s voice in global governance, thanking the leaders of both countries for their support.

Bachelet said she was honoured by the nomination and stressed the significance of the candidacy being backed by three major Latin American nations. She described it as a sign of renewed commitment to cooperation and to the United Nations at a time of mounting global challenges, including conflict, climate change, inequality and declining trust in institutions.
