Malawi striker Tabitha Chawinga has been named Italian Footballers' Association (AIC) Women's Player of the Year.

Tabitha, the Malawi national women’s football team's prolific attacker and captain, claimed the prestigious title along with two other awards on December 4 at the Gran Galà del Calcio AIC 2023 event.

The two other awards included Best Forward (Top 11 of the season) and Top Goal Scorer for scoring 23 goals in the 2022/2023 season.

The 27-year-old Malawian plays as a forward for Division 1 women's club Paris Saint-Germain and was the first women's footballer from Malawi to play for a European club. She joined the club on a season-long loan from Chinese champions Wuhan.

This is not the first time Tabitha is in the spotlight. In November, she was named together with her sister as the two Malawian sisters among the 30 nominees for the 2023 Player of the Year Award by the Confederation of African Football (CAF)
